Creation Stories: Carrying Our Traditions Forward

On View at the Museum of Vancouver from: June 19 - September 18, 2024

Featuring 10 emerging and mid-career Indigenous artists, Creation Stories: Carrying Our Traditions Forward provides an opportunity for the 2022 YVR Art Foundation (YVRAF) scholarship recipients to exhibit works created with their awards.

A variety of art practices are explored in Creation Stories, but a common thread is the important role that family connection and mentorship play in carrying cultural traditions forward, and that creativity is a gift to be shared. To highlight this common thread, a bright shade of yellow is woven throughout the exhibition, symbolizing the warmth, positivity and strength of family ties. This choice also reflects the brightness and energy of the spring and summer seasons, reinforcing the idea of creativity as a shared gift that blossoms within community.
